- Modern Panditji is a free Vedic astrology site for readers in India. It draws your janam kundli, scores a gun milan for a marriage, keeps today’s panchang and rashifal for forty cities, lists the wedding muhurats the panchang allows, and answers questions in chat. Every page is written in English and in Hindi, because half the people who need this read Hindi first.
- Who runs it
- Modern Panditji is built and run in India by software engineers who wanted to do something decent for astrology rather than sell it back to people in pieces. It is a small operation and there is no support department: the mail sent from the contact page is read by a person, and a chart that comes out wrong is somebody’s mistake to fix rather than a ticket number.
- Why it exists
- Because the free astrology on the Indian web mostly is not free. You give a birth time and get back a teaser, a countdown, an ad break, and a paid astrologer waiting on the other side of it. The arithmetic underneath is frequently approximate, and a birth in 1943 or in 1951 gets quietly given today’s clock, which shifts the whole chart. A kundli is the first thing a family looks at before a wedding; it should be correct, it should load fast, and it should not cost anything. That is the entire idea.
- How the charts are computed
- Every chart is computed by Modern Panditji’s own calculation engine, from real astronomical data, using sidereal positions with the LahiriThe ayanamsa value the standard Indian panchangs settled on, and the one every chart here is drawn with. Two sites that disagree about a chart usually disagree here first. ayanamsaThe gap between the fixed stars and the tropical zodiac, now close to 24 degrees. We follow the Lahiri value, and that is why two sites can disagree. and whole-sign houses and the historical timezone in force at your exact date and place of birth. That last clause is the one most tools get wrong: India kept wartime daylight saving between 1942 and 1945, and ran on local mean time before 1955, so applying today’s offset to an older birth silently produces a wrong chart that still looks plausible. Nothing here is a lookup table, a rounded almanac or a guess. The method is written out in full, step by step, on the methodology page.
- What we will not do
- We do not predict death or terminal illness, we do not tell you a marriage is doomed, and we do not sell remedies that promise to fix your fate. Fear is the easiest thing to sell in this trade and we will not use it. The charts, the panchang and the horoscopes stay free; only a long conversation with Panditji is paid, and what it costs is written down in one place.
